Well, I just solved a problem that has been bugging my computer for the past few months. Not only was Facebook acting stupid requiring a log in about 1/2 the time, but I also noticed when I closed MS Outlook, the outlook Icon remained in the system tray... worst than that was when I reopened Outlook, any mail that had been sent since the last time I closed it was already there, indication Outlook never really closed. This was confirmed by checking task manager and Outlook.EXE was always running. It took some trial and error, but I finally realized clicking the red "X" in the upper right corner of the screen would never shut down outlook, but if I clicked File, exit, then reopened outlook and clicked File Exit it would shut down Outlook.
OK, besides this being a PITA, it is also a major security risk because anyone can get to your Outlook mail even though you thought you closed it.
Here is what I stumbled across yesterday. When I opened Outlook, I went to Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Option (in General), and Com Add-ins. There I found "Itunes Outlook addin" was checked. You don't need to remove it, just uncheck it and suddenly, Outlook closes normally. Later in the day I realized Facebook was also opening normally again. I don't know if that was a fluke or a side effect of the Itunes addin running in MS OFFICE. In any case, from what I have been able to determine, this add-in got loaded with the last I Tunes software update and has something to do with linking address information in MS Office with your I-phone or I-Pod. It's a feature I don't use, so I turned it off. Just thought I'd pass this on if anyone else is pulling their hair out wondering why MS Outlook isn't closing down.

Hmmmm.... Thanks. I will have check, I think it may also effect a few other things as well that sound like the problem you had.
In my opinion, iTunes is a very invasive piece of software. I hate it for many reasons, so I quit using it, and now I use WINAMP (with the appropriate plugins) to sync my iPods. Works great, without all the iTunes bull$!t. I have uninstalled iTunes from all my computers.

Yes, it is the iTunes sw that has kept me from buying an iPod completely. I am running a Sansa View 16GB instead. Sync my tunes with Media Player without any issues, no extra plug-ins and BS like in Apple.
Although, my wife has a 1GB Nano and I am buying her a new 16GB Nano Video this afternoon. She doesnt mind the iTunes BS. But, after reading the tip here, I will look for any BS crap Apple adds to her PC.

Yay! 'Puter wars!
As I sit here typing on my iMac iTunes is playing assorted electronica from the collection I ripped at full CD quality. I only use MP3 when I have no choice.
I have enough of PCs at work, I don't allow them in my house.

Please don't turn this into a PC vrs Mac thread that gets locked. I only posted the info I found in case anyone else is having similar problems and wants to try to correct them with a couple of quick clicks. It's already far enough off topic Computers instead of motorcycles) that I would not fault the mods for shutting it down.

:agree:
After 2 full days of testing, what ever the add-in did to Outlook and my system was also impacting my Facebook log-in problem as well. Now Facebook starts up just like it should....everytime.
great info.... thanx :teeth:
