2007 Ford 500. How do you compress the caliper piston on the rear brakes? I thought I had it back and started putting the pads in, now I can't get them out as I can open the caliper wide enough?

not postive but dont the caliper pistons actually actually have to be turned back in not compressed like the old days,and no i ant sure bout that or the direcion you need to turn em to make em go back, but i wouldnt try clamping them to get em back till ya know for sure,, ya not much help but hopefully someone will chime in who knows for sure!

As I recall, the Ford rear calipers need a special tool to turn them back down as stated above. This is due to the design of the parking brake.

yes as stated you must turn the caliper back in.one is clockwise and on is counter.look carfully at the caliper as if i remember correctly there are arrows showing which way to turn the piston
Yep, its a bummer. I bought a Mustang that some screwball forced in and the brakes were all cockeyed and tore up the rear rotor. Needed a new set for 1 side.
Jim, most decent auto parts stores have the special tool to ratchet the rear caliper pistons. I experienced the same thing on my Taurus SHO.

I rented a set from Autozone, the problem is I can't get the jacking plate and the tool inside the caliper. There is only one jacking plate in the tool kit. It should be so simple, it's just a matter of space. Did you find any tricks to getting it inside?

You can get a cheap multi tool that is a small cube, fits on a ratchet. Even its about 40 and after a few times they are shot. I'd try to make something from the scrap pile and jamb it inside.
I talked to a master mechanic about this. It is like the others are saying. You need the correct tool to turn them in. Both calipers should turn clockwise to retract them back in. If the piston was too far out you may have a hard time getting it to go back in. At least that is the way it is on a 2006. Is your parking brake on?

Installation
NOTE: The LH caliper piston turns clockwise and the RH caliper piston turns counterclockwise.
Using the special tool, compress the brake caliper piston into its cylinder.

r1, so is there a unique tool for Ford? I don't see how I can go cclockwise with a tool that will jack in a single direction. I have asked at Autozone if they have another tool, they don't just the kit. I do have the piston out to the max now.

yes there is a special tool from ford but is a joke to use.i have a mac tool that works well(not sure of #,its at work) but is not the latest.the ford tool is just a t handle that turns the piston but can slip off the piston quite easily.
