Title: Anyone using Progressive shocks on a Dyna?
Post by: Jim Bronson on March 17, 2013, 05:49:15 PM
What model are you using, and how well do they work to improve the ride?
Thanx.

I have a set of 13" 440's on my Street Bob and I have been pleased with them.

12" 440's on my Street Glide. Huge improvement over the factory air shocks. Am now looking for a set of 13" for my Ultra too.

I ran 412's on my FXD for 60k miles, they were an improvement over stock for sure.

I have since changed to JRI's and those are a big step up from the 412's.  They can be dialed in better for weight changes than the progressives.

I'm using Ricor progressive ...  http://store.ricorshocks.com/default.asp (http://store.ricorshocks.com/default.asp) ... and I know a few others using them and they are wicked.
They are expensive, but they are quality

Too many years ago to count, I tossed a set of PS front springs and 412 HD's on my FXR-SP and thought I was on a new bike, only better.  Sucker was like being on rails in a turn, and I mean that in a GOOD way!

I have the Progressive 412 with heavy springs for 2 up. Way better than stock. Maybe a little stiff for solo.

Looks like they recently introduced the 444 model. None of the discounters seem to have stock.

Same here for my FXDWG 1996

I had the 418's on a 98 FXDWG. Much better than stock, but would beat you up pretty good when riding solo. I put the almost new stockers back on when I traded it in and couldn't believe how mushy it felt. Way too soft.

I have been using progressive 12.5" 970's on my street bob and they are more stable at 90mph on rough stuttered cement than the stockers were on smooth asphalt at 45mph. Cornering is much more confidence inspiring. One of my favorite 25mph sweepers I now exit comfortably at 55mph rather than the 35mph I used to.

I find the adjustability of the 970's outstanding. If you look around you can find them for $450-$500 on ebay occasionally like I did.

I fully believe these are a best buy! I just can't justify $1000 for ohlins hen these work so well!

I put 13" 440's on my 08 FXDC, whole new ride. The extra length gives you about 3/4" more shock travel and helps smooth things out. I also put Ricor's fork emulators in, they help a lot with controlling the front end. way less dive when braking. Unless you do a lot of 2 up riding don't go with the heavy duty springs. I'm 220 Lbs and ride mostly solo, the regular springs work well for me.

I think 12" is stock on my 05 lowrider, so I should be safe going with 12.5" for a little extra travel. Since I do mostly solo or light passenger, I'm thinking the standard (not HD) models. Looks like the 440 model has been replaced by the 444.

I too am thinking of putting a set of the new 444s on my 2011 Wide Glide. I ride mostly solo and weigh around 230 so I'm thinking the standard springs. I also checked out the 430s but for a little more money I think the 444s are the ticket just wish the 444s in black had the polished highlights like the 430s. I have a set of I think they are 412s or similar on my 96 RK and they are much better than the air shocks and picked them up cheap out of Uncle Henrys for 100 bucks slightly used. Anyone else running a different brand shock that is comparible to the Progressives in price and quality and how do you like them?      :chop:

A little more coin for some real quality shocks will better reward you every time you ride.    :scoot:   Rick

Maybe Con"Potty mouth"ious rode/rides.  May also have a hand in Gaterman 1023's...Con"Potty mouth"ious say "a good lifter that lifts all the way will bring much pleasure your way."  :teeth:   Same goes for the ride quality of premium shocks.   :bike:   Rick

Max,  A creative mind solves many a problem.  Sounds like you have yours handled.   Rick

Jim,  The road is never too long or rough when you have quality suspension.
