My '02 Dyna with 45 Mik & DTT ign. is having some strange idle fluctuations. I take the same 18 mile route to & from work on the freeways every day & lately when I come to a stop on the off-ramp the idle will remain about 200-300 RPM high (from 1000 RPM). It is almost like my throttle cable is sticking. If I blip the throttle hard I can usually get the idle to come back to normal. Sometimes it will still remains high, sometimes it will idle normal, but act like it is wanting to surge a little.
I did have this problem about a year ago & dealt with it or I should say did nothing about it for about 6 months. I replaced the MAP sensor with a used one I had laying around when was doing some other engine maint. & the issue went away. Don't know if it was a coincidence , but i did fix it.
Does my idle fluctuations sound like a MAP sensor going bad & would that also be affecting my timing at other throttle positions? The bike runs great in all other respects.
If you're sure you don't have a cable hanging up, then check for a intake leak next.
Check for intake leaks to. Have only ever changer one map sensor that i have found bad..Google gm map sensor test, a bunch of stuff pops up.
I haven't done any testing this time yet, just started two days ago. I did check for intake leaks using multiple methods last time & everything checked good. Forgot to mention, the day before I switched out the MAP sensor my ign. started throwing out a 3 flash MAP sensor failure code. I have also noticed too, starting the bike after it has been sitting over-night or all day at work seems like it is more difficult firing off.
