Title: Dealer ordering
Post by: dwl on September 06, 2013, 06:48:01 PM
I went into my local dealer on Aug. 20 to order a new 2014 Road King. They told me they couldn't do that until they sold a certain number of new bikes. I was just wondering why someone couldn't just order what they wanted. They also said that twice a month they could put in a "wish" list if they sold enough. Today they tell me they didn't get any "wish" bikes. How do I go about getting a new Road King the way I want it? Is this standard practice or just the run around to sell what they have? :idunno:

Thanks I will try them in the morning. My problem seems to be that I want ABS brakes, red and standard alum. wheels. Maybe someone will have one.

I'd bet they only have so many allocations.  I know I had a rough time ordering my 2009 car.  They took my order, but it stalled until an allocation opened up (I did finally take delivery of that car).

At least they told you up front that they couldn't take your order yet.

They could do an inventory swap but might not want to in these early stages of the new models coming out. Some dealer is going to loose money getting the bike to you unless you are willing to pay a little more. Check local dealer inventories in which you are willing to travel to.

Oh God no, don't do it......... :gob:  :banghead:

There are certain pieces of property in eastern Iowa I will not set foot on, and won't let friends set foot on, and they all have the same name on them.

There's just certain things that friends don't let friends do..........

Where are you in Illinois and what specifically are you wanting in that Road King?

1st,, we don't order "a bike" we order in batches,, six times a year,, and if  our inventory dropped below a certain point we get what are called "supplemental allocation bikes" that list is pulled twice a month,, (we got 14 on thursday) now,, if you are wanting a roadking, but the dealer doesn't have what you want on order, as long as it is about 30 days out or so we can modify the order,, color, options ect.. otherwide i put those bikes on the top of my wish list and normally i can get them with in a month or so,, as long as we keep moving iron!! what are you looking for in a 14 RK,, i have a couple here..

I am a picky ol fart! I have been treated really well at McGrath Hawkeye Harley in Coralville Iowa. Way better than the old owners they bought out in April. The prices on my new Softail were as low as I could find in this part of the state. JMHO I guess.

TDK - it's getting tougher all the time to not patronize a business with that name on it as it seems they are buying up about every business in sight !

I have always been treated quite well by the guys and gals at the Coralville  location but I've also had a good share of "take it apart and put it back together correctly" after having them work on my bikes.

At least the McGrath boys are not afraid to spend some money on the HD business as they are planning to build a new HD Super Store not too far from the current location. Supposedly it will have a state of the art dyno center and they have hired one of the dyno guys from Silver Eagle HD in Waterloo for it.

You can order that bike from harleys website, take the paper to the dealer, and they will get it for you. You will have to wait about a month, but you will get what you want.

As long as you're wanting a 1200c ... Or a steetbob.. That will work... Hd1 is for those two models only...

One particular auto dealership monopoly in the area has attempted to sodomize myself and several friends, and has done it to hundreds if not thousands of people in the area, most unfortunately not even realizing it's been done. If you go in unprepared and let them, they will convince you they made you a sweetheart deal. If you go in with your ducks in a row and know where you should end up it's a toss up between being funny as hell or maddeningly ridiculous. The final straw for me was when I had to threaten to call the police to get my car keys back from them(they drove my potential trade) so I could leave, after they tried to sign me up for financing that didn't even come close to making sense. The payments were DOUBLE what they should have been and they stood by their numbers. The previous trip there they had tried signing me up for an interest rate that was nearly 50% higher than the going rate. Payment was the same, but was 5 years instead of 3.
I know one of the guys, and his family, that now works in Coralville. I feel sorry for him the day he slips up, or they decide they're paying him too much and send him packing. I won't repeat what he has told people he does at work.

Tomcat thats interesting, and maybe some false advertising by the moco. Their website lets you build the other bikes as well.

take a little closer look,, under the HD-1 tab is different options,, factory customizer and bike builder,, if you click on the "factory customizer" it will show you 2 models only  xl1200c and the fxdb.. the bike builder is for all the other model and shows dealer installed options only.. obviously we need to have the bike here first before we can install the options,,

Now i see, they are only installed by the dealer. Kinda sucks, you order better wheels and end up with brand new take offs. I guess you could sell them
