went to leave for work this morning and 2011 Ultra limited went into alarm mode. and wouldn't start. if changing the battery's in both KEY FAB's tonight doesn't work what can I check? Need some HELP. or how do I turn off the alarm manually I know there is a way to use the directional to do it but I don't know how?
You can only turn it off manually if you know the factory set code.
You can only change the factory set code if the fob is working.
Better hope for the battery.
last resort: your dealer can also do it
The owner's manual walks you through the method to disable the alarm without the fob. If the battery fixes it, reset the code number to something you want following the instructions. The factory code is based on the VIN.

The factory code is based on the VIN.
There is no factory code. The code is set by the selling dealer during prep and there is no uniform method for this. If you don't have the code or a working FOB, you're screwed.
Anytime I work on someone's bike now, I read the code and record it in case they find themselves in that situation I can reset the HFSM.

Either way, dealer sets or factory, if you don't have it, no start.
On mine it was the last digits of the vin #. Coff 06
I'd bet good money it's the battery in the fob , they should be changed at least once a year
Some dealers were using the local zip code a few yrs ago. :nix:
Yet another, mine was last 5 digits of serial #, in reverse order.
Mine was 1 2 3 4 5, I was told to change it when I got home if I wanted .
Ah ha! My dealer is using the last 5 digits of the VIN. I thought that was the norm everywhere. I changed mine and actually had to try and use the code one time. I learned that you cannot sit on the bike, move the handlebars or anything when loading the code or the bike really gets upset and takes awhile before you can load the code. I sat on mine and raised it up and straightened the handle bars. It refused to work for a long time.
i thought those things were so other people couldn't ride your bike. :hyst:

I find that HFSM a pain in the ass. Way too sensitive. I ride with the fob in my left pocket and sometimes if I try and start it sitting on the bike, depending on surroundings the alarm activates and won't reset unless I climb off the bike and turn my left pocket toward the antenna. Max distance with either fob is 4' in an unshielded or interference free area. Another brain dead MoCo design if you ask me. Some gas stations, hospital zones bike needs to be moved to a different location before it works. Not just my bike, others in my area have seen the same thing.

ron I have owned my 2005 flhtci since new and on laborday weekends since 2006 we have been at springfield il for the ama bike races. on Saturdays we allways go to darcy's pint on Stafford which is on the west side of springfield south of the airport. in 2006 and in 2012 my bike would not start because the security system would mess up. both times by the time it was trailered the 8 miles back to the dealership once we got there and reactivated the security it would start right up. just so happens there's a 200 ft tall micro tower within view behind darcy's. something over that way my bike doesn't like. I have since learned allot more on how to manually unlock the bike with the switches! more importantly I don't lock the security we we stop at darcy's. both times it's been a free ride back to hall's hd in springfield. the owner's at hall's have treated me very well since our first meeting in 2006.
The security sensors for merchandise set of the security also. Sux with the SE bikes with the alarms. Then I told the salesmen to turn on the bikes when going through the sensors and they won't go crazy.
Got home tonight & tried a battery I had in the house & found one in the bike I put that one in the second FAB, LOW & BEHOLD neither did the trick, when the wife goes shopping tomorrow she'll pick up a new battery. May be that will do it. I will also call the stealer tomorrow & ask them what code they used when they programmed the bike. this bike is my daily ride & it will kill me to not have it. so I hope the new battery does the trick & then I will program in a new code for myself. thanks for all the help. You guys are the best!
hope the battery works. here is what I recommend, buy two batterys, install one in fob,get spare fob remove the battery from it ,tape other new battery to the fob without battery and put it in tour pak so if your original fob fails when out or you drop and step on it you have backup in your tour pak and because there is no battery in it the system still works normal and sets when stops . evey 6 months buy new battery tape it to spare use battery that was taped to spare in original fob :bike:

I agree. I've had similar situations toward the end of the riding year. I change batteries at start of the year and carry a spare. Once they went to the auto arm system it eats batteries. I also have had to pop the battery out and put it back in to reset and then it works fine (even had this on new battery). I carry the code and turn signal commands in my wallet just in case. Best of luck.
I'm going to call the Stealer today & ask them what the code is that they used to set up the bike. I hope that works. I'm 40 miles from the closest Stealer.

that's not what we use... if that was the dealer "norm" that the bikes would be pretty easy to swipe!!

Or put the battery IN the fob backwards. No drain, no chance of tape coming off.
GOT IT GUY'S, I called my Stealer & they told me they use the last 5 digits of the bikes VIN # But when I tried it that didn't work! So I checked the service Manual again & it said you can't use a 0 as a number & the last digit is a 0, so I used a 1 and She started. thanks for all the help. I guess I use the right forum to go on. the wife is shopping today & she will pick up 2 fresh new battery's.
Lucky boy. And find a better PIN............
As soon as I get the fabs working I'm am going to change the pin #'s to something no one will get. like my the locks on my luggage, like 1,2,3,4,5
joe! I keep the code to dismantle the security system in my wallet and a copy of the hd instructions in the tourpack. I have even unarmed the security system at home in the garage so if it ever acts up on me again I can unarm it myself. keep in mind the blinker module has to be in good working order or that could mess the security system up also. I cracked the blinker module housing under the seat and my security system started to do weard things. range, wouldn't lock and unlock as usual etc.
OH WELL! the wife just got home from shopping & I put new batterys in the FABs. NO GOOD... it won't disarm. I pulled the set off & blew everything off. & made shore the plugs were all good in the alarm mod. & check the antenna, I guess I have to use the blinker system for now untill I can get it up to H-D. Unless some one else has any ideas.....
Chances are the batteries you bought are good. But I have bought that style battery, and they were low on voltage by 25%. If you have access to a volt meter, check that out first before hauling to the dealer.
I can drive the bike I just have to use the manual blinker codes to set every thing, THen she starts right up & runs.
Do you have to remarry the fobs to the security module?
After replacing the batteries? No
CR2032 batteries are supposed to be the 3 volt variety. The Panasonic batteries we get from HD usually measure 3.2-3.4 volts. Work great. I've seen some batteries from wally world measure 2.4-2.6 volts, no bueno. IME the system likes 3.0 or more
just went out to the bike and everything worked just the way it should???????????????? I don't know what happened all I did was have a few beers last night & went to sleep.. I guess the H-D fairy came by & sprinkled some H-D fairy dust on her & wa-la everything works again.... I don't know...
Living in the middle of the AZ in no were land 17 miles from the closest town & the heat does strange things the car, trucks & bikes..... :idunno:

And bike owner! Maybe you had the car fob in your hand until this morning. :slap:
I don't think so! I ride this bike everyday. And there are two key fab's and I tried both of them.
OR you could be right! I have been known to be stupid now & then.

Some type of meaningful sacrifice is probably in order.
