Here ya go Panzer ...a new general topic :teeth:
Even though I don't drink a lot, I do love beer, especially the wheat ales. Blue Moon and Shock Top are my two favorites. I also keep a case of Busch Lite in the garage fridge ...what's your favorite?
long as Panzer pays is all that counts

Have several "favorites".....Shiner Bock, Busch, Boulevard Wheat, Dixie.....Haven't seen any Dixie since Hurricane Katrina, but I hear it is being brewed now in Wisconsin. Just haven't been able to find anyone carrying it, or able to order it. :emsad:
Guinness (although it's not a beer), Anchor Steam and Stella Artois when I've got cash, Bud when I'm poor. Ray
A free one. Like the Icehouse. :soda:
"Old Thumper" Ringwood Brewery, UK. A dam good

I 'member when I lived in your wonderful country...a pocketful of change bought 4 of us a couple of sixes of Billy bear or Red white and Blue beer at the drive through likker store window in Warner Robins, Georgia, and we still had enough to cruize in my buddys '68 mustang or my ole Tradesman 100 van (supposedly owned once by Greg Almond...it was sure set up nice, the whole back end was a bed) then we would go and start "leefing" the mailboxes or hooting at chicks as they came out of the roller rink...
I know that Billy Beer was bad stuff, but its my favorite memory of beer.
For taste...theres a micro brewery up here in Ontario that makes a beer named Creemore...there is nothing better.

Widmer Bros. Hefeweizen is as good as it gets.
Stone makes "Arrogant Bastard" which is pretty good as is their "double bastard" Also like Spaten's dark bock.. Max
Do you have Corona beer in the US? Smooooooooooooooooooooth.
Hate cheap, harsh, sharp, nasty beer. Can't stand Bud either (sorry - just offended an American institution there maybe?).
Lots of nice beer in NZ though they give it the generic name: 'piss'.
Here in the Cleveland area we have a micro brewery, Great Lakes Brewery. They have a seasonal beer the Christmas Ale, only sold one time a year. They brew it, it is sold til it is gone and there is no more til next year. It is expensive for beer, for me anyhow $10.99 a six pack. Well I treat myself with the stuff, one or two six packs a year, share it with a friend or two. Well this year I was on a medicine, I just could not drink while taking this stuff. I wanted that beer so much I tried ever so carefully to take a couple of sips, no way, an awful feeling set in. Well anyhow I am coming off the medicine and there are twelve cold ones in the ice box, may have a couple this weekend. If you are from Cleveland or have had this beer, you would understand, it is the "Potty mouth". Normally a Heineken or Great Lakes Dormunder Gold, or if on a budget a Michelob light or want something light. I want to try that beer the folks north in Minnesota are always talking about. When we were kids it was Genny Creme Ale, throw the empty seven once bottle at stop signs. A twelve pack and a large bag of nacho cheese Doritos. That was a big Friday night cruising in Bobby Gaylords four door Nova. Yep that pretty much covers beer this morning, how long does the delete function work...
For Cheap beer = Natural Light, Guinness or Sam Adams if i want something with good taste.

although, thruthfully just about any beer is good beer. Not a big fan of stouts though (Guinness, Murphy's, etc.)
I haven't drank for a long time, but the best beer ever was good old Miller High Life. The Champagne Of Bottled Beers.
A cold American Beer does quite nice for me at the end of the day.
The only time I like beer is in the HOT summer, then an ICE COLD Silver Bullet in the bottle, chug the whole thing followed by a long loud BUUUUUUURRRRRRPPPPPP. AH! Now I feel better!
Draft beer is my weakness and well maybe chicken wings too.
I like any beer siting in front of me really

The post about beer is a hit.
As I see it, (stay with me on this) there's a lot of beer drinkers here, I for one.
But, have you noticed not one micro brewery of brewery itself has asked for a "bailout".
Way to go gentleman, support our breweries.
Mmmmmm.....food for thought on buying stock in a couple major breweries.

I rarely buy beer anymore unless I'm out on the town with friends. Most bars kind of look at you funny if you bring your own beer in to drink.

Widmer Brothers is an excellent choice. I perfer some of the local brewed beers. If you have not had the pleasure of trying Brewed in Missoula Mt. Moose drool you don't know what your missing, Trout slayer aint bad either. I used to really like some of the beers coming out of the Red Hook brewery in Seattle (still do but not as much) Sammy Adams are nice, and Sierra Nevada has some excellent brews, those Lienies (sp?) out of Wisconsin are maybe the best but we can not get it here and only had it a few times....Oh crap I think I know more about good beers than motorcycles....oh and just make sure it aint synthentic beer.

If you guys get a chance. Pay homage to the Oregon mircros.
Portland and the countyside smaller towns and cities make a lot of great beer.
Deschutes, Rogue, Oregon Trail, Widmer, Portland Brewing, Siletz, and others all jam plenty of hops, malt and enough yeast to ferment great tasing brews.
The saying goes all the ex pot growers just transitioned into making micros. One step ahead of the IRS.
Follow the $ and stay on the safe side of the white or yellow line.
More brew always gets consumed in a tough economy. I'll toast one to the brewers and sippers at HTT.

MaxHeadflow,
Was that you who sent me some of that Double Bastard a few years ago?
By far the best bottled ale I've had. (I've put a lot of study time into it too!) One day I hope to sample some of that on tap. It would be a slice of heaven!
I have never been able to lay my hands on another bottle. I contacted the brewer and begged them to make bigger batches. They said they intended to double the batch size for the following year...
As for ale on tap, I still like Pike's "Kilt Lifter". (Scottish style ruby ale) It's not so much the taste, which aint bad, but the sledgehammer effect it has after the second glass. That ale will kik yer ass!
Another really great ale in a bottle I've found here is "1554" by Belgean Brewing.
AP's Pale Ale and AP's Columbus IPA, I make my own.
If I am drinking store bought usually PBR. They recently changed to an older recipe, you can actually taste the bittering hops in it now.
Here is a little tip, do a blind taste test of PBR against canned Heinekin. I'm betting on the PBR.

Hey Jeff,
I've tried beers from just about every continent and I still keep coming back to the Widmer Hefe as my #1 for close to 12 years now. A close second is Belgium White wheat beer with a slice of mandarin. I was in Fred Meyer the other day and they now have the Leinenkuegel(sp?) and I picked some up. Real good but still not enough to jump to the top. I grew up drinking the mass-produced stuff and after searching out the smaller brewers and finding what was out there I'll never drink the "koolaid" again. Take care.
Fat tire beer is my favorite. Or corona`s

Yes, Pabst Blue Ribbon. They went back to an older recipe awhile back and the beer is now actually pretty fair. Lucky Lager and Miller are using older recipes now also. If you have not tried a PBR in awhile you will be surprised. If you don't like it you can use the rest for cooking.
AP
Yes indeed I also enjoy an ice cold PBR in a bottle or on draft at the favorite watering hole......doesn't seem to taste as good in the can as it does in the bottle or on draft. The Pabst company is using the old recipe and I believe Miller Brewing company does the brewing for them using their recipe.

Miller Light here, but it really makes little differance as I don't drink much alky anymore. There is a case of Miller, a couple bottles of hard stuff in the closet and the beer will last me 6 moonths, the hard stuff a couple years
MGD in a bottle but don't drink too often----like it too much when I start :smilep:
You have to admit the Canadians know how to brew beer,,,so in that thought go with the oldest brewery in North America and enjoy a fine Molson product. Whether its Molson Golden or Canadian and for my friends at the shop Molson XXX. I also enjoy a Brama now end then,,one of those add a lemon type south of the border beers.
Dave
Favorite beer- Boag's from Tasmania. But since I cant get it stateside I prefer Guinness which I cant afford all the time. So more often than not I keep a 12 pack or so of Miller Lite in the beer fridge in the basement. Also when I ever feel like I'm missing Texas I pick up some Shiner Bock.

God is this informative. 60 replies on beer and counting
At the Mexican restaurant it's Modelo or Corona with lime, If at the Japanese steakhouse it's Kirin or Sapporo. If it's when fishin it's Bud or Nat light. (we drink a "lot" fishin) gotta be cheap and light. If at home it's Michelob or Sam Adams or whatever looks good when I'm going down the beer aisle. Got a couple cases of Bud left over from a party in Beer fridge right now. I'll try anything once....or twice. Love the German stuff and the dark homebrews. Hell, I like it all. Free and Cold have got to be my favorite though.
My dad would go moose hunting in ontario canada ,and he would bring back RED CAP ALE it sure tasted good to a 14 year old,or it was the guzzling to keep from getting caught, that all came into good knowledge when we went off to college. We also partook of STROHS TIP
Well let's see, normally at home it is Natty Light, at the bar is Bud (not light), while overseas it was Kirin (Japan), Sapporo (Japan), San Miguel aka San Magoo (Phillipines), Black Swan (Australia). When I am the mood for German beer, Shiner Bock from right here in good old Texas, Becks and St. Pauli Girl (I like the blonde on the bottle) the beer ain't bad either.
AP...I do not have a favorite as I got 3 kits from 3 places...The closest shop is 35 miles and ain't much....

this is like a thread on "oil" or "tires". But what the heck...
In the winter it's a dark beer, Guiness or Deschutes Obsidian Stout
In the summer, it has to be much lighter (but not a lite beer - what's the point) Corona, Landshark, and sometimes even a Bud.
If any of you folks ever make it to Chattanooga,Tennessee make sure you check out Big River Grille and Brewery. There Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale is outa this world. Lately I've been digging on there IPA . I like all beer but my latest favorites are Sam Adams Scotch Ale and Fort Collins Brewery Z Lager.Ashville ,NC has the French Broad Brewery if your ever on the Blue Ridge Parkway drop off and check the place out. Great beer.
For all the folks that dig Corona you should check out the Corona Dark. I've been told you can only get it in Mexico but not sure about that.
Putting a lime wedge in a beer bottle never turned me on.
If it's so good why doesn't the brewery add it.
Me, I'm a man....give it to me straight up. <<< no remarks about that.

IMO a cold American lager on draft. - Coors, Yuengling, Stegmeier's, Molsons golden.etc. Don't care for the dark fancy expensive limey beers with the fancy colorful labels and not an import beer fan  but I'll still buy a barrel of Molsons golden on occasion. My favorite is Miller High Life - close 2nd is Coors Light. Its got to be cold!!! And its always much better when drinking from an ice-cold frosty mug. Needs to have a little ice floating around...
By the way - you know you're never suppossed to wash a beer mug with any kind of detergent don't you? Always just wash with hot water and scrub it. No soap!

Couple of years ago in Kansas I had my first "redbeer" :wtf:. Beer and tomatoe juice. A midwest thing I suspect. It was actually pretty good with a couple of martini olives in it.

I believe that would be called a Bloody Mary. And it can also be served witha pickle spear.
Ah, beer. The cause of and the solution to all of life's problems.

This crazy ass Canadian showed up at our campsite at Glencoe in Sturgis in '04. He pulled a 12 pack of Moosehead, a bottle of Clamato juice and some martini olives out of the saddlebags of his early 70's FLH and served us all Canadian Bloody Marys. The OL was not feeling well that night but said she slept like a log that night after 2 of those suckers. Clams and Tomatoe juice :wtf:Whats next herring and prune juice?

I grew up just up the hill from Miller Brewery so that might be the reason for my affection for Miller High life.
I also like Octoberfest style or Bock beer if I can get it. Sweet and malty, you can keep the hops. There's a Micro brewery here in Sheboygan that makes a seasonal bock that is about 8.5%. It's called Two Headed Monk. After three of them you feel like you have 2 heads.Got to be one of my favorites.I always cook with beer, sometimes I even put it in the food.

Wasach brewing has good beer. I have downed many Polygamy Porters while at Moab.
I just attended my first pre drinking sampling party...Can't wait to see what they do in a couple of weeks....
They had a SNPA clone that tasted great at 10 days...DItto...Needs a couple of weeks to get great...
Polygamy Porters from Utah are excellent
Wow ...there's a helluva alot of beer I've never heard of!
I was at a buddy' house last night and he had some beer called 211 Steel Reserve, 24 oz can and over 8% alcohl content. Not the greatest tasting beer by far, but after the first few swigs it didn't matter as it kind of numbed my tongue ...and after drinking two cans I was definitely feeling the effects.
HaHa!!
211 Steel Reserve.
You know you can walk around downtown Las Vegas drinking a bud, miller, coors no problem. Let one of the cops see you with a Steel Reserve in your hand and they will give you a hard time. Seems it is the local derelects swill of choice and is known to promote bum fights.

Lone Star here. Something about getting change from a 10 for 12 of them.
Hey 66- Where are you getting a 12 pack of Lonestar for < $10?
When I drank Moosehead was mine
bought a case of yuengling premium for a change. its OK i have had a few. similar to the lager but with a different after taste.
in my hay day i used to drink Budweiser.
rolling rock is good.
had lone star when i was down in Texas and really liked that too.
Shiner 100 is very good too.
PBR
Spotted Cow, from New Glarus Brewery. I like the original Sam Adams, too.
Just the few posts in this thread makes me realize that most beer drinkers really do like hoppy beers.
We get it, why dont the folks at BMC (Bud,Miller,Coors) get it?
AP
My doctor agreed I needed to ride the old Harley more and start drinking alcohol, either beer or wine as my cardiovascular system is not in too good shape.. I looked through this thread but when I got to the beer store I didn't like the prices so I went with some cheaper, Old Milwaukee, we also picked up a jug of Carlo Rossi "Paisano". I like both but it's hard to stop after one or two, and the doctor said only 1 or 2 a day, every day. At first the doctor didn't think riding the Harley provided any worth while exercise but later agreed it might be the best I will do. If I live that long, in six months and we will know if it helped. He stopped me on the way out and joked that if my numbers change quickly enough we could actually compare different beers to see if one helps more than another.
PaJoe- Some years ago, my grandma's doctor wanted her to drink a can of beer everyday because of her heart ailments. I remember putting up hay in the evenings and she'd be out on the back porch drinking her a can of Bud, and it was a strange/funny sight as she was a very proper church going lady ...God bless her soul.
sam adams black is good but is hard to find out here . seems like a few years ago old milwaukee(or milwaukees best)CRS won a blind taste between coors, bud and something else(CRS)... :dgust:
Evil-Eagle,
That is interesting about your grandma. I did some reading and it appears the doctors know a moderate amount of alcohol helps the heart but they are afraid to suggest it to the patients for fear the patients might drink too much.
taz95dog,
The Old Milwaukee is good enough for me, I don't have the refined taste as many beer drinkers do, and actually like the Old Milwaukee. I think the Old Milwaukee Light won several awards, but the main difference was the light has less alcohol and therefore less calories.
Sierra Nevada Harvest is just dandy...  Nice and hoppy...

I did the beer tasting tour at Harpoon last year. Mighty tastey beer there. :teeth: Did Sam Adams the year before, ditto there too.
Why don’t they ever have that free beer they talk about?
There’s this one bar I know of, that has a sign that says free beer tomorrow, and I come back the next day (tomorrow)… but the beer is never free… what’s up with that? :crook:
Lately it's Sierra Nevada pale ale. My doctor said I should have one a day.
was in Sin City last week, too cheap to gamble...but hit the jackpot with this long shot:

:wtf: My dear old daddy, who at the advanced age of 89 still enjoys a cheap cold beer, pointed out to me when I was young that you only rent beer. My favorites are cheap or free American domestic (Miller, Rolling Rock, Busch - beers that quench your thirst and don't fill ya up). Many of my more sophisticated beer drinking friends disparage me for my taste (or lack thereof in their opinion). I just say "I think I'll have another!"

That's what the bartender called it back in 1967 at a bar in San Diego when I was stationed there. I watched a guy at the end of the bar drinking that. When the bartender said what it was I shuddered. After 3 bbers I said "give me one of those". Loved it ever since. Sounds awful, but if you like beer and tomato juice(or V8) you'll love it.
Anything cold. But finally Fat Tire has made it to Georgia, just this month.

It WAS Dixie beer, but haven't seen any since before hurricane Katrina (Aug 05). Anybody (anywhere) seeing any of this?
Supposedly a brewery in Wisconsin was brewing it on contract from Dixie till they got their facilities up and running again. I have read on the internet it is "available", but as of yet haven't seen any (this is in Arkansas). Any help appreciated... :emsad:
If you ever in CT, look up SBC Brewery. I know taste is subjective, but this place has it from A-Z and it is all killer.

My next COLD one :smilep:
I'm a fan of Sam Adams. For a cheaper beer I like Yuengling Lager. Sweetwater 420 made in Atlanta is very good as is Moon River made here in Savannah. I try to stay away from the mass produced American swill. Life's too short to drink cheap beer (stolen from Sun Valley Brewery)!
I don't always drink beer but when I do I perfer Dos Equis :teeth:
BECKS is my favorite followed closely by Pilsner Urquel
Sober for 10 years......My new favorite is ROOT BEER..........
But I used to love Heinken! Nothing like grabbing a hynie!
I have to agree with the root beer, but it has to be the rich, smooth and creamy Dog-N-Suds or A&W type. Not the canned/bottled carbonated type. And it has to be ice cold. :smilep: :teeth:
First of all, Look at how mant views and responses this thread has. LOL.
As for my choice. Whats cheapest, cold and wet.
I am updating mine, I am currently enjoying both the Black & Tan and the Lager by Yuengling , at first I didn't think either was better than Old Milwaukee but after having a couple cases, now do think the Yuengling is better. They had a sale on Black & Tan so I tried some and it is good too, a bit more flavorful than the lager. I definitely prefer bottles over cans.I go in for blood tests near the end of the month and will learn if the beer or two a day is helping.

Back when I was a teenager and dating Aceman2101 in high school we loved drinking Schlitz! Too bad it's gone. I love having a nice cold one...I mean really cold...in a big FROSTED mug! I haven't seen a FROSTED mug in a long time...why don't they serve beer that way anymore? I've also had a lot of excellent beers when in Germany & Japan. I loved getting the assorted shorty's on a tray in Germany. Leinenkugel from Wisconsin is another fabulous beer! Pass me a Leiney! Or any other brewsky and let's drink to our next ride! Ride safe and not drunk! :smiled:
This year we stayed at the Riverside Casino during the Laughlin River Run. They have their own house brand in 12 oz. cans called Riverside Light. I have sampled this swill before and it was a mix between turpentine and tolulene with cat piss overtones. Anyway, the Ol wanted some beer to take up to the room and saw they had 6 paks of the Riverside Light available at the bar for 6 bucks. She bought a 6er.
Got up to the room and cracked one and was just amazed at the great maris otter malt taste and the excellent balance of hops.
I looked on the side of the can and it said Blue Diamond Brewery, Minnesota.
Needless to say our ice chest in the room stayed well stocked with Riverside Light.

Hey Wildhorse.....I hadn't seen Schlitz in about 20 years.....then our grocery store across the street started carrying it ($3.49 per six pack/cans). I got some to try and yep.....tastes like the old Schlitz I remembered. :dgust:
One of the beverage Cos bought the Schlitz rights and had moth balled it. I had heard recently they were going to reintroduce it, so we all may be seeing it soon. Sounds like a good move with economy the way it is at $3.49 per 6pack.

I read they changed the recipe and people did not care for the new taste, but many news outlets claim the new Schiltz will use the original recipe. It certainly will be worth trying.
Kinda like Coca Cola with "New Coke"? I'm not talking about mechanical things that get upgraded.
Why do companies want to change something that is great in the first place. I could see it if sales were way down that they would try something new.
Bottle: Saranac IMPERIAL India Pale Ale (even better than their regular IPA)
Draft: Dinosaur BBQ's Ape Hanger (Middle Ages Brewing, Syracuse, NY) or Caskazilla from Ithaca Brewing. Hoppy. VERY hoppy.

Seems like a lot of resturants are replacing some old time favorites with the Adams brews.

yea, the Adams stuff is getting pretty popular. I think that's because there's been a shift for some folks to more full bodied beers. Besides, it's not that bad since most of the SA stuff is pretty good. This one's quite good, and in season now:

I would tend to agree, since SA died about 180 years before the brewery opened.... :teeth:
Samuel Adams (1722-1803), American Patriot, most famous as organizer of the Boston Tea Party. Samuel attended Boston Latin School and Harvard College. After finishing his education, Adams went into business with his father Samuel Adams Sr., opening a brewery in Boston. They were driven to the brink of bankruptcy by legislation introduced by the British, which fueled the younger Adams' dislike for the colonial government. His father died in 1748, leaving him sole proprietor of the brewery business..
He soon began to get into politics, becoming a tax collector for the British, and participating in town meetings, where he was often vociferous and outspoken. He would soon become leader of the Patriot group called the Sons of Liberty. In 1764, the brewery, which had never been very successful, was forced to shut down, and Adams dedicated himself wholly to politics.
So it was told to me that he put the old mans business under, this tells a more detaild version of this story.
