Title: Which Trailer hitch?
Post by: Hybredhog on April 08, 2015, 11:58:08 AM
I've got a job coming up for a hitch install on a '11 street glide, and as I was looking thought the options, they're all about the same price. So, what's good, what's bad, and what features are really worth while. One customer said he's had to weld up his Kromeworks to beef it up, and I wasn't to impressed with their wiring kit. from what I see Kromeworks, Kuryakyn, and Rivco are the major players. Thanks in advance.

I used a Kuryakyn on my 2001 Ultra. It served me well and didn't rust.

I like the ones from N-Line Trailers.  I've got 2 of them. One black and one chrome, and both are holding up good.  Also, have their wiring harness.

I have two hide away hitches from bushtech.  They are built strong and when I am not pulling a trailer I can pull the hitch off and leave the receiver on the bike.

I got a hitch from McHitch in Logan,Iowa. I had it on an 09 and now it's on a 2011 and it
is a receiver hitch. I also have their plug and play wiring set up. the wiring kit is pretty good
because the power for the trailer lights comes from the battery instead of the small wiring
that goes to the bike lights. Google them and it shows pictures of the hitch and wiring. Bill

I used MC HITCH on the last three bikes, no issues and good customer service.

so you understand that you are not supposed to pull a trailer behind a bike :potstir:,,, the hitch I have on my 2014 streetglide is made by hard chrome,, but I would have much rather bought a hitch doc,, way better quality but they were unavailable when I needed one,,

Kuryakyn hitch, and I'm very happy with it for four reasons:
1.  The bracket attaches at the front of the tire in addition to the rear fender mounts like most.  I think this is stronger because the pull of the hitch is both up and forward.  Make's sense to me.

2.  It's been on there for years now, has seen a lot of miles, and there is no rust.

3.  You can easily unbolt the shiny chrome ball mount that goes around the rear tire, leaving the almost invisible brackets in place.  I use those brackets to mount an aux 5 gallon fuel tank, or a cargo hitch, when I need them.  This is very useful and handy.

4.  I've got a one-wheel trailer that puts a lot of weight on the hitch when my wife packs for a vacation.  like over 50 pounds on the hitch.  And there is no sign of any wear on the hitch.
