Has anyone ever run a 66 tooth rear pulley on a belt final shovelhead? Karata lists one for 1985 and up but mine is 1983 so it may be none are made for the 83 FLH.

Certainly would like to see the Difference in the rear Pulleys... Hell I have put Belt pulleys on very old Shovel wheels!!!

Most 66T pulley's I have seen, are for 2000 and newer wheel, and have the larger centerhole you need to adress, otherwise it is just a question of shimming and spacing to make ut line up.

I just did the calculator on the Baker website and there is less than 250 RPM drop. My bike is smooth at 70 mph and the drop just about do 75 mph. meh

Stock "Sturgis"/ 4 speed shovels are pretty long legged to begin with, and much taller gearing gives up some low speed snap. Not to mention that it'd be more vulnerable to lugging & other bad habits, I'd leave it alone.

Mine was geared really tall (2.98:1), the motor pulled just fine at highway speed but man what a bitch it was launching from a stop and around town at lower speeds. I was only using 1 & 2 up to about 45mph, having to slip the tarnation out of the clutch to launch. I have it geared at 3.42:1 now, mucho better but a bit viby above 75mph.

With chain drive my 93" 76 FLH  has 3.22:1.  I don't really do highways anymore with this bike but it does fine.
I had it at 3.08:1 for while but it didn't seem to be in a happy spot.

Mark you also have a RevTech 5 inna 4, right? So a bit shorter 1st gear than a stock 4 speed.

Been too many years, I'd have to look that up.   :hyst:

edit to add: I thought about this at work today, and it seems that in late 2002 or early 2003 when I bought the RT 5/4 there may have been options for FL or FX 1st gearing and close ratio 2nd-3rd?  (Does that make sense?) I will need to pull out the file to see if that was true or not.  The few brain cells I have left are telling me I went with FX.  Maybe it'll rain soon and I'll have something to look up.

Sorry for the thread hijack
