Howdy

I'm trying to fix a nasty oil leak on a friend's 1990 FXRP. I think I have it narrowed down to the braided oil line that carries oil from the oil tank to the oil pump.  It's really close quarters in there with 3 braided oil lines all touching each other.  I think one of them chafed through.
Pic is from right side of bike looking at back of oil pump.  I'm not familiar with these lines and am not sure how to remove them.  There is an inner and an outer hex.   Which hex is turned to remove the line?  Thank you

The lower one is probably the one to loosen the hose. The upper is probably an adapter from pipe thread to the hose fitting. If I'm wrong, try the other one.    :SM:

I would replace all of those lines with new oil hose that is not braided. Braided line generally has a thinner inner rubber hose, and they tend to leak sooner when they dry out. Braided oil hose is only esthetical, not stronger.

I believe that Ohio HD is correct about the Oil Line Fittings.
I just recently replaced the Braided Lines on a 91' Heritage.
As far as the close quarters...Yes, it is.  Not that it can't be done.
Some Manufacturers have included a 9/16", and a 5/8" very small and thin "Specialty" Wrenches in order to be able to access, loosen, and tighten the Fittings and Hoses because of the clearances.
Just a suggestion...but You may want to check with Your Buddy and see if by some chance He has those.
Should those Wrenches be available...they just may make Your job a little easier.

And I probably don't need to tell You this...but, Tag or Mark the Lines as to where they came off from, so that they will be re-installed correctly.

Beware of cracks by the tappet cover- it is prone to breaking there and can be a cause of leaks.
