Hey,
Been out of the loop on these for a while. Do swap meets generally post a notice on CL these days? Lookin' for some in the Mpls/St. Paul area. Last time I went to one they were advertised in the local paper.(Commence laughter  :embarrassed:)

Thanks, Dave

Usually I can find swap meets with a google search but I quit going to anything around here. Either it's all cheap leather, led lighting and polishing compounds or when you do find oem parts the seller thinks the stuff is solid gold.

Almost a thing of the past around here. The last one in Portland was pretty dead. Too bad, it used to be the place to see everyone. I think most stuff is posted on E-bay or craigslist now. :rose:

The Donnie Smith bike show/swap meet is the only one I know of. Usually in march.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

There used to be a bike swap meet nearly every month here in Northern California. They hardly have them anymore. The economy and the price of gas has put a lid on lots of gatherings like that.

I used to go to the Cow Palace at South San Francisco. This is a 200 mile round trip for me with 4 hours of driving and most of a tank of gas in a car. I used the car to haul stuff I would buy. Then when you got there, it was $10 to park and another 5 per head to get in. It was sponsored by the MMA and was pretty big but I don't think they hold it anymore.

I never see any ads for them at the dealers and indy shops, either. Guess I'm looking in the wrong place. In any case, it would cost me $100 just to go to one nowadays so that's out.

Me and my friends used to hit the swap meets all the time. They used to be fun but now, if you can even find 'em, are nothing but a leather boutique. Waaay too many clothing, knife, and junk vendors and hardly any parts. I agree, when you do find one with parts, the sellers think they are worth the price of gold. If that's the case, I've got at least a million dollars worth of parts in my attic/garage! We usually do hit the one in Des Moines, Ia in February, mainly for something bike related to do during the winter. I've heard that the winter one in Denver is good, but I guess it's really close to Xmas time so I've never had the time or money to get to that one.

I haven't been to a swap meet in several years, but I got a booth at one here in the Detroit area (Novi) coming up on November 20.  I have a pile of parts that I hope to get rid of - some new, some used.  I'm tired of looking at it take up space in my parts room, but I don't have the time or patience to list each item on fleabay.

Iowa District 7 ABATE holds a swapmeet at the Mason City, IA Fairgrounds the first weekend in April every spring. It has been getting bigger. Donnie Smith is probably a little bigger as far as swap and a heck of a lot closer to ya. Usually in St. Paul, MN.

Syracuse N.Y. Superswap at fairgrounds held in Feb http://www.syracusesuperswap.com/defaultSYR.htm. Haven't been for 5-6 years so can't tell anything about it now. There were quite a lot of antique bikes and parts then.

Denver Show and Swap, Jan. 28 and 29.  Usually a pretty good time.

The Syracuse show is still a good one. I always enjoy spending a little time and money at it. I usually post a link to pics of that event every year on this site. Here's last February's show: http://s873.photobucket.com/albums/ab293/59Panhead/2011%20Syracuse%20Superswap/
