Looking to add a brake light in the tour pack on an 05 Classic. Did a search but did not really find what I'm wanting to know. Is there a unit that can be added from a different style dresser? I don't mind doing some wiring but was curious if there was a light to be used using existing wiring harness. Maybe some suggestions on aftermarket kits that don't require a bunch of butchering on the wire harness. Trying to help a old friend out to be more noticeable in traffic and I mostly work on old bikes. Needless to say I'm not very savvy in this area. Thanks, Rick.

Motorplex, the simple answer is this... the stock HD harness for an 05 CLASSIC comes into the tour pack with 3 wires.  Ground, running lights and brake lights.  The plug in the tour pack for an 05 Classic and 05 Ultra are different in that the Ultra has the brake light wired and the Classic does not.  All you need to do is pick up a connector at the dealer and have one of the mechanics there use his crimper and stake it to a hunk of wire and you just slip it into the Classic plug and you will be all set.  You may need to pick up your ground by tapping the existing ground wire or just using the metal plate in the bottom of the tour pack as a ground point.

I just wired up to the controller for a set of Hyperlights and mounted the 2 hyper lights  (2x4 ) on the underside of the tour pack. I've had the $55.95 universal brake light only for years now and love them.  http://www.hyperlites.com/stdsf.html  Guess if you wanted to go fancy for another $20.00 you could get the running & brake light set up.

The photo here was when I had them on my 99 mounted to the saddlebag bracket.  For some reason, the 05 bracket put the lights at a funky angle so I put them directly under the tour pack and they were just fine there.

Thanx, that's the stuff I'm shoppin for. Just a simple extra brake light that looks decent. I'll leave the disco ball stuff for another day.

Re "Disco ball".  Just keep in mind, the Hyperlites ( early version I have ) came with the option of  flash or 5 flashes and then on solid  that was selectable by snipping a wire during installation.  The newer stuff has 4 user selectable options flashing, non flashing, modulating, or California ( 5 flash and on solid).  However, the installation PDF for the UNIVERSAL kit still only shows a single wire to cut, so you may want to call Hyperlites at a number from their website just to be sure you get the correct controller with your order.

Here is one more site to look at:

Here's a 14" Radiantz Running/Brake Light.  The hole for the small wires are located up where the weather seal touches the rim and would not be visible if LED light is removed.
Every day, I'm one day closer...  WTF!  I'm not near 70 yrs. old!

The LED King Tour Pack Stop/Run/ Turn will give you plenty of light back there. I have that setup on my 2011 RGU with a Ridiantz stop/tail light as well as the turn signals being run/turn/stop. I like people to know when I stop so they might see me and hit the brake while they are talking on their cell phones.

If you have the "Classic" tour pak that has no lights at all you may want to look at the HD lighted spoiler. Works with some of the luggage racks, but not all. I have mine wired to be run and stop.
Also changed the side lights on the pak to LED's and have them as run, stop, turn signal.

I use this.  It's about 1"x4", mounted under the tour pak with the edge even with the rear of the tour pak.  It is hardly noticeable till you tap the brakes.  When you hit the brakes, you will have the attention of anyone following.  It's a self contained, two wire, 33 programmable flash unit.  I use the standard model set to a "knock your eyes out pattern".  They do offer a stop brake unit that would be 50 state legal.  Mine is not truly legal in many states, but I've never got anything but compliments from LEO's.  It can be had for <$100.  It also brings a 5 year no hassle warranty.  Current draw: < 0.75 amps

Edit:  I bought one of mine here (I have two).  http://www.thepublicsafetystore.com/ghost.html

I've got the brake/ tail model mounted to my detachable rack.I like having the extra tail light mounted above the stock light location, when you hit the brakes, 5 rapid flashes then stays solid red. Small &super bright, the lens is also slightly concave  for a wider beam pattern.  Cages keep a good distance away, highly recommended.
