Will not work without modification. Anyone running one?

At minimum, the damper sleeve would need to be removed from the primary cover and some cover webbing would need to be relieved. The damper hits the vertical portion of the adjuster bracket.

Wondering what impact removing the damper would have.

The instructions call for Softail and Dynas call for the dampener to be removed. I would assume the same on a M8 if it's in the way. Have you tried contacting Baker with your question?

I just installed one in my 2017 FLHTK Ultra Limited.  Removed the damper.  Seems to work fine.  Will know after the Alaska trip, departing 11 June.  If I remember, I will respond, with the results.
