I got the clutch apart on the wife's XL but cant get it back together..

Anyone have a home method of compressing the clutch spring without the tool.

If not I'll take it to the shop..

different models used diferent compressors. the 86-90 models use a large circular block which puts an even pressure on the diaphragm, the 91-up ones are the same at the big twin ones. not sure of a shortcut, but the compressors are cheap (try ebay) and stop wrecking the clutch hub and pressure plate. If your sporty is a 5 speed u can used the same compressor on the big twins if you get the full kit with the adaptor...

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of Duck tape then you're in trouble

Thanks Andy - its an 1988 - I took the clutch pack to the local Indy after it was obvious that I was going to screw things up by trying to do it without the correct tools..

5 minutes later and I was back in business.

Another reason why I love my Shovel - not as many special tools needed..
