Hi,
97 Sportster 1200, do you check oil on the side stand or sitting up right?  Also, do you run it to the full mark, or do you run a half quart low like the twin cams so you don't spit out so much through the breathers?
thanks.
it's only kinky the first time

Always check mine upright. And I run mine between marks or half quart low as you stated.

Special,
Some pal you are, where's the trust?
You know I have a sporty and you don't ask me?
Some nerve.

Let me just add a little to the answers here:
The tank calls for three (3) quarts, put in 2-1/2 like they said.
Don't be mislead if the bike sits for a few days and you find the oil level low when cold.
Warm it up, then check the dipstick.
Stand or no stand.....difference in level is not worth mentioning.
Midway up the stick or a tad more is a keeper.

BTW.......you're welcome.........geeeze!
