Shifter shift shaft broke

 Hey all  U helped  me before the shifter shift shaft broke on my 75 sporty were the shaft meets the flat plate were it was welded should i try to weld it ?and how not much clearance were it rides in the tube.Looked on eBay no one had one any were else?to look
