The manufacturer states .030 because that's what they're set at in an automotive application.
For a motorcycle the lifters are the happiest when set to the middle.
1/2 of .200 + .040 [to allow for growth] = .140

    Plus the deeper adjustment may be helpful with hot starts at fuel stops etc..

Just making a fly cutter to do my heads so when the rods come , its ready to go back together. they are in Kentucky right now
