someone tell me why 13" shocks for a 99 touring will not fit a 97 touring ? Was going to try some new Shocks on my 97FLHR , Tech guy says only 99+

The parts catalog calls for 54565-97C for both bikes. Run em if ya got em.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

hbkeith

I know they will fit , just wander why a the shock company says no , he said they are made for 99+ chassis  :nix:

The later version of the shocks use more air pressure and AFAIK that is the only difference.  The dimensions of the body and eye to eye are the same for the ones I have (1998 and 2011).  It's likely just a change in the valving and seals, but that's just a guess on my part.

I  had  a  97 road  king , I  changed  the  oil in them used 20W synthetic  big difference , they  had  100k  when  I  did  it

For my -97 I may be tempted to overhaul the suspension next winter and use Öhlins front and rear. List price for a pair of shocks is just $679.
