What are the differences in the S&S 124" cylinder kits 99-06 vs 07 and up? Is it only stroke specific or piston heights? I have a S&S 4.625 Stroker setup that I'm doing up for a RoadKing. The cylinders where trashed when I recieved them via Bulk Buy. I also see that I can order year specific cylinder kits but wanted to make sure that I could go with either since I have the S&S wheels.

Thanks

Early 124" cylinders (for Twin Cam bolt pattern) are 5.004" tall. The late cylinders (for Twin Cam bolt pattern) are 5.013" tall. If you use the early rods from S&S 7.667" rods with the late cylinder 5.013", you should get close to zero deck +/- 0.002". Use the late rods 7.659" with the early 5.004" cylinders you get close to zero deck +/- 0.002".

It sounds counter intuitive, but that's how the numbers stack up. This using a 0.020" base gasket with either setup. Your case deck height effects the zero deck as well. Also you need to use 1.050" compression height piston.

Start with knowing the rod length, then go from there.

Here are the two examples. Either one "should" give you a minimum amount of material to remove from the cylinder to set to zero deck height.

I think that the S&S base gaskets are 0.018" thick. If you opt to use them, you may not need to take any material from the cylinder to get zero deck.
