OK, stupid question here...What is, or should I say, was the S&S Super A. I would guess it is similar in vintage to the B and the D model carbs.... but what were the specs how different from the B is it....I would assume the A vs B would be the throat size, 1-3/4" and 1-7/8" for the A and B, respectively. I used to know this stuff at one time....now it is all foggy....and if it is 1 3/4, would this be too little carb for a 74" shovel with 9:1 pistons a good valve job, cycle shack 1 3/4 in M pipes, and an Andrew's B grind cam?

Do you mean the side float L-series carbs?

Gas 1977 & 1978 MGAL WAS 1-7/8" throat. 1972 to 1975 GAL was 1-7/8". GBL was 1-3/4". 1967 to 1971 GA was 1-7/8", GB was 1-3/4".

Fuel carbs from 1967 to 1974, F and FA were 1-7/8". FB was 1-3/4".

I rebuilt a MGAL for a customer last year. He runs it on a 74" Shovel and he says it runs good.

S&S doesn't actually have rebuild kits in stock for these carbs, but one of the ladies there (who knows where the old parts are stashed) was able to get me everything I needed.

The 1-7/8" would be fine on a 74" Shovel, the 1-3/4" is for a hot XL.
