Compensator noise after cam install

I just installed a CR480MT cam along with Fuel Moto cast manifold, 5.5 injectors, Fuel Moto Riot Pipe. Powervision tuner with map from Fuel Moto has been installed as well.

Bike runs very well, however I do get a rattle from the compensator at idle once the bike runs for about a minute after cold start. I had the service manager at my local dealer listen to it. He says that's pretty common with cams that have the choppy idle. As soon as you come off idle the rattle goes away and the bike is smooth running.

Anyone experience this?

Yeah that can happen, a slight change of the idle characteristics. Some bikes also get a clicking from the TB throttle plate on TBW bikes. I assume it stops when just giving any amount of throttle over idle? I would follow the Joe Lyons measure and shim procedure to tighten it up some.

It goes away immediately off idle. Thanks Ohio, I will look up the shim procedure.

Often times tuning can smooth that area out as well (be it fuel, timing or both)
Like Mr. Ohio said, stack height should be measured and adjusted as needed.

If you only have noise at idle, it's just the lope from the cam causing it to bang back and forth on the comp ramps. Shimming the springs will help some but probably not 'cure' it. Choppy cams do this, they are a bit hard on compensators at idle.
