Time for a 6 speed!

Looking at replacing my 2000 Softail 5 speed trans with an Ultima 6 speed.

My question is are the gear ratios the same on both 1 thru 5? With 6 being the "overdrive" on the ultima?

It is also my understanding that there are differences early and late 5 speeds.

I'm not quite sure what the differences are.
Any help would be appreciated!

Well remember in 1999 the softail was still using an evo motor so that maybe H-D used different gear ratios that year.  Anyway I would go to Ronnies and look at the part numbers for the transmission gears of 2000 and whatever the last year that series used a 5 speed.  If the part numbers are the same the ratios would be the same.  They still could have different overall ratios if different primary ratios were used like the touring models did with the 99-01 magnetti marely fuel injection bikes.  However this does not affect the transmission and that is what you are interested in.  I have the ratios for the 99s but I am not sure that will help you since an older engine was used  that year (post back if you want the 99 ratios).  The manufacturer of the transmission you are considering should certainly have the ratio data you need and I am sure if you search you can find the ratios used in the 2000 transmission.  Hope this helps a little & good luck!

98-06 used 25/36 primary as pre where 24/37. And All where 1.1 in 5th. Rear pulleys 32 at trans . Rear varied. But most where 70

I put a Screaming Eagle 6 gears into the 5 case 2000 Heritage a long time ago. Works well after all these years. The Screaming Eagle kit number 33100-03A adds a .885 overdrive to the existing ratios of the 5 speed. This is different from the 6 speed the factory added to production in 2007 which is 1:1 in 6th with revised ratios in the 5 lower gears.

Stock 5 speed is 3.21, 2.21, 1.57, 1.23, 1.00

SE 6 into 5 case is 3.21, 2.21, 1.57, 1.23, 1.00, .89

2007 6 speed is 3.34, 2.30, 1.71, 1.41, 1.18, 1.00

The Ultmia 6 is 2.94, 2.21, 1.57, 1.23, 1.10, .86
