I have searched for dyno results of a twin cam 124 with the DME 598 and couldn't find any?  Does anyone have any experience with this setup?  I am thinking of swapping my 662-2 cams out this winter for a quieter valve train. My setup is around 11-1 compression, Larrys 110 heads. HPI 62mm throttle body, with a boarzilla.

If you have a noisy valve train with the 662-2 cams it's likely not the cam profile.  Others may offer opinions too but I don't recall any previous noise complaints on here about those cams. Ask Larry what valve springs he used on your heads.

It is just noisier from 2k to 3k rpms. The heads were setup for the cams not sure what springs were used.

Do a search on here for rocker noise or similar titles.  You may find it's common and there's a cure.

Last 124 that came through was 140s/140s with a beautiful tq curve. HDSP heads, DD Borezilla, SE58 and a Tmax (not my choice of tuner) Customer puts a lot of miles down and is immensely happy. Valvetrain is whisper quiet as is every 598 I've done.

I built a very mild 124 with this cam that was mid 130's STD. I thought the cubes would shift the torque line over 500rpm or so to the left (based on what I've seen with this cam in builds with less cubes), but it didn't in my case... it comes on hard at 3500 and if you blink you'll be tapping the limiter in gears 3,4 even... so it's a great hot rod cam, imho from my experiment... others with more time with this cam may have different, but I personally wouldn't want it for a sport touring 124"... hot Rod she's as good as any. As always the right combo of parts is assumed in my response ;).

She was whisper quiet and deadly smooth power delivery (sneaky) as well 😈!

Thank you for the insight. My 124 is around 11-1 with Larrys 110 heads and an HPI 62mm throttle body. With the tman -2's it was 140/140.
What were the details of the 124 that was running the DME598?

It has a zilla. 58mm with 6.3g/s injectors I believe... Heads are 110 heads (a porter in CA did them, he doesn't display much online, but is just up the road from Mackie and uses primarily Mackie grinds)... heads flowed in the mid 320's @ 28" and It was under 200ccp...

It was a local dyno. I'm sure it had more in it, but don't know if the tq would have come in any different below 3500 with a more detailed tune 🤷‍♂️..

The tq curve looked almost identical to m1marty's 110 in the dyno section. I was expecting the cubes to bring the left side up a bit sooner. Marty could probably say better... did that 124" you tuned come on quick Marty???

I don't think you'll yield any "better" results with the 598 over the 662-2... I would figure out why your valve train is noisy and remedy that. If I would have swapped cams in that 124" it'd been to a cr630i though...

319fatboy

Ok. Thank you. Sounds very similar to what I have then.

Maybe only thing that would be "better" is lifter lifespan...

Is that worth the cost of a cam swap and tune... that's up to you 👍👍

Last thought... I have been told, but have no real time experience, that the 598 becomes a real different beast at 11.1-11.3:1.

Ok thank you for the replies. I think I am shy of 11-1 I will do a compression test when I get a chance. I thought I was only around 195ccp.
As far as the valve train noise, i have rocker lockers installed new rocker supports, new lifters push rod tubes drilled out to 5/8" good oil pressure, rocker arm clearance is between .007" and .010".
Just has a ticky noise from 2200 rom to 3000rpm not terrible but not quiet either

Iirc- was 120+ at 2500. 130ish at just past 3k. It's been a while.

Seems consistent with the results we had (with yours being about 5/5 higher)...

I like a build that is cocked and ready to have the throttle wacked at 3k while high speed cruising (this is my preference, not for all)... the 598 didnt give me that feel till about 3500... like I said though... acceleration (bangin through the gears from a stop) it was a blast.

319 how's your 662-2 feel at 3k while high speed cruising???
