S&S has an M8 crate motor, a 136" complete ready to roll in all blacked out. Just guessing by the dyno sheet they're probably a little conservative with the compression. That has been their typical MO with crate motors in the past. But it still looks good. I also see they have the oil feed, return and vent in the case.

But I've seen our resident tuning guru rigidthumper do a little better than that with his 131" lower compression big bore M8.    :SM:

That's the 49 state version with cat exhaust (i try to avoid those limitations :) )
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

Wish they had one for the M8 Softail.

You can buy the components and use them in your cases... :smilep:

Defeats the purpose of a crate motor.  :gob: I could buy Scramin Eagle stuff too, LOL

My biggest problems with crate motors.  In the end.  You have a crate motor.  Now offering unassimilable and a couple things off the list like pistons and cams.  Now we are building performance.

That's a misprint. The actual price is $11,999.99.
Going down that long, lonesome highway. Gonna live life my way.

I can tell you what a high performance motor cost to build from the ground up, all new parts, high performance head work on brand new heads, new cases, etc. I easily will have $11k in it when I add it all up. And I mean every part, nut, bolt, etc. is new. That's with getting discounted prices on many parts.

Yup.  Try buying a crate motor for a hot rod car, anywhere from 20 -40 K depending on carb'd or turbo. I remember when Racing Head Service in Tn.  sold crate motors for under 4K.

My personal take-away is; they're mechanical devices built by man, they'll eventually break but when built right as most crates are, they're incredibly reliable and work extremely well. Add S&S quality to the mix and you should be good!

Only issue might be a snot-nosed Dealer with hurt feelings refusing to do service on a non-HD built engine if it ever comes to that.
We're all A-holes. It's to what degree that makes us different.

Anyone know if this has a proprietary cylinder stud pattern?
