i am working on a 80 sporty and the guy bought everything new and changed out tarter drive and solenoid and the shaft and it was still sound like starter gear is bad he brings it over and starter is spinning opposite way it is supposed to anybody know how to reverse ,it has been sitting a couple years from a wreck starter was not taken apart ,{yet}thanks pete

I would say the starter brush positions are wrong. Wouldn't be the first time that the whole truth wasn't told about work gone wrong. Only way to prove it is to take the starter apart and guarantee it's wired properly.

Yep, Ron nailed it. Brushes are in wrong. Probably had the armateur out, brushes poped an they got put back in wrong. Usually you just have ta move the brushes one spot over in the same direction to fix it.
Can't drink all day if ya don't start in the mornings.
