I bought a new set of gears to rebuild my transmission, The question is can I use the 35961-52 Needle bearings in place of the loose rollers on the countershaft gear? Thanks!...mule...

I don't have my HD parts book, but my Kickstart M/C Parts book says you need  #9084 Rollers.

My HD parts manual shows the same thing... you need roller bearings #9084.

The needle bearings (35961-52) are shown for late 76 to 1980.  Coincidentally there is also a different counter shaft listed after late 76 (35614-76 and then 35614-80).  I'd bet that if you want to use the '76-'80 needle bearings, you need the later counter shaft too.
