Asked about using mt 88" cyls for my next build on my 95" 06 FXSTSI,understood that would be a good idea.Happened to tell the owner of the local H-D dealership about my plans,he told me the stock 88" cyls won't go that far.So how big can the 88"s be safely bored to? Just want to clear this up so I can decide what I need to do.As Always TIA           Coff 06

Well, mine are being cut right now to 96". I hope they go that far...lol. Pretty interesting that the owner of an HD dealership has very limited knowledge about his product. Maybe he should check out some of the forums...

Isn't the bore on a TC88 exactly the same as the bore on a TC96?  The displacement is different because of the stroke not the bore.  It's the same parts and bore dia. to make a 95" from a 88" as it is to go from a 96" to a 103".

Factory HD TC 95 & TC 96 use the same size jugs.  Ooops!  Meant to say Factory HD TC 88 & TC 96 use the same size jugs.  Thanks for pointing out the error.  Later, Calvin.

Headquaters will bore them to 98in and supply and fit the pistons....Bob

Some think the 95" cylinders are larger in diameter then the stock ones...used to hang with a "Know It All" that called himself a mechanic that argued about this very thing with me once

What do you mean? As far as I know they are. 95s are 3 7/8 while stock 88s or 96s are 3 3/4.. Maximum

Yes, the STOCK bore on a TC88 and a TC96 are the same (3.75). The stroke on a TC96 is longer by, roughly, 3/8". I think I know what you're trying to say...But, there are a lot of different bore/stroke combos that can achieve 95" or 103" or whatever. Google up some bore/stroke charts and you'll see what I mean. The simplest and cheapest way to turn a TC88 into a TC95/96/98 is to increase the bore...period.

We bore the 88' to 98", and go from 96" to 107" as well.
Works great.

I have used several sets for 98 and 107.

Here's a little info taken from HeadQuarters site about using 88" cyls for a 95" build.
My guess is your dealer wants to sell you new jugs.

For 88 to 95 Twin Cam conversions, we prefer to bore a seasoned stock Twin Cam cylinder to size rather than selling you a new set of bigger bore cylinders. The end result is the very same, cylinder sleeve thickness wise, BUT the seasoned stock cylinder will hold it’s shape better after boring and last much longer.

Oh I think he knows. He lies so he can get you to buy $400 worth of new cylinders.
