Which Andrews conversion cam would you recommend for a Dyna with 06 heads milled for 10.25:1 , 95"  carbed, stock headers with Cycle shack slip ons.

Wood 6, ground by Andrews, is a spot-on shoe-in at that compression.

I think T-man may have some conversion cams now (?) & there are rumors that some HQ offerings may soon become available...I bet there'll be others as the conversion continues to gain popularity. Who knows, maybe Bob Woods will even get onboard someday. :crook:

Yes VicW, T-Man does have conversion cams available in several grinds. I recently installed his 525s in a 95" flat top build at 9.8:1 with his stage 1 heads in a '03 FXST and it runs it's ass off. Great bang for the buck.

The 525s should do good at 10.25 as well.

Yup, Andrews 55N.  I have not tried it personally but if you are looking for a budget build I would think the 55N is the perfect grind for what you are doing.  The cam specifications are almost indentical to the SE211 (which is a good cam for that setup).  I would also think it is about $100 less expensive than the others.

You have to add 150.00 on top of the 390.00 for the races to be put on I think

Is this right. 540.00 for the conversion wood cam. I wonder if it comes gold plated :smileo:

Herko was selling conversion kits with all you need.  You might try to call or PM him for info.  He can be very helpful.

Or you may just consider the stock setup with the SE211 or Andrews 55 cams and think of the tensioner shoes a standard maintenance items (like brake pads).

You will have to contact Bob Wood to see if the plating service is available.
Could be 3-4 week turn-around.

What's a conversion cam?  Is this converting to gear drives, or the new chain/tensioners?

HQ has several of their popular grinds availlable in the new style roller cam design. They have had them for some time now and many have been installed ths year.

It is taking the 06 and up cam, camplate and oil pump and putting it in the older twin cam motors. I did that to my sons 03

How much is too much compression for the 55N?      10.65:1  and 198.8 ccp still OK?

george, 10.65 would be o.k. if you know a good tuner. Compression releases are recommended. With today’s gas, I’d go a little lower compression, of coarse I have idea of your intention with your ride, bar-hopper or two up? These are variables to consider.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses.

I am just trying to learn as much as possible right now, so I can hopefully make an informed decision.  I am on a budget and had initial intentions of getting some stock 06 and up heads with .030 head gasket, bore stock cylinders to 95 with HD flat tops and Andrews 37N conversion cam.  Then I started thinking  :embarrassed:  why not get the 10.25:1  HD cast pistons and a "hotter" Andrews conversion cam.  This is where the confusion began for me.  Seems every time I ask which Andrews cam to use for this compression, someone tries to sell me on the Woods 6 cam or some other cam that blows my budget build ideas out of the water.  I cam get the Andrews conversion cams for $236 through Zanotti's.

I have some telling me the 55N is good for 10.25:1 and others telling me it needs more compression.  Then I have the Andrews site thoroughly confusing me even more.  They recommend 9.8 to 10.2 for the 55.

I really do not want to "pony up" for head work as this kinda defeats my budget build needs.  I guess I have just heard too many conflicting thoughts about what compression is ideal and what is too much.

I am not planning on doing the build for another month or two, just want to make a well informed decision.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
