history of flattop/bathtub harley builds?

gofast's pic of the flatside motor in the tb thread has me wondering...was the first harley bathtub chamber a porsche evo design, was it an earlier indy design?...would really like to have a vintage motor with bathtub chambers...who first decided that hemi wasn't getting it done?
