I guess with 10 posts the guy is a newbie.
Im surprised Earl ddint show his Fangs ;)
Stick with Mother Hds' formula and if you ever need it when on the road you know where to find it and not ahve to search for an ammsoil retailer in the middle of whereever you maybe.
Fail.ing that BellRay heavy shock for the transmission for my .02 opinion.
Now Earl, be nice pleeease.

The October issue of Quick Throttle magazine had a very good article/test on different syn motorcycle oils. The conclusion was what I've thought all along. Not real scientific, but done responsibly I think. At least someone gave it a shot.
But like I always say, any well known brand syn oil will be just fine. Just buy what's cheaper and conveniently available.
And don't worry about needing a quart of specific brand oil in the middle of nowhere, you can put ANY comperable grade syn oil in and it won't hurt a bit.

go to Wal-mart and buy 1 quart of ATF type-F for the primary and buy 1 quart of  80/90 gear lube for the tranny.

I tried ATF type F in primary.  I'll pass, too grabby, not smooth.  That's just my opinion, try it for yourself, it sure as hell won't hurt anything in there.  Any good (Castrol, Valvoline, etc.)  SEMI-SYN 10w30 is fine.  Good chain lubrication, minimum slippage and good heat resistance.  As for your trany, I'll let someone else fill you in.

Oil? OIL? Sterilzed Whale oil is what we use.  :hyst:
The safest thing to say would be to make sure you put it in.
