Will a shovelhead outer primary fit my 65 panhead electric start?

I have a 70 & up on mine & for it to work right you would need to use some shimming up of the pinion shaft. Some get away with just the two thrust washers at the end where the shaft goes into the outer cover bearing . Mine has some interesting shims on it . The 65-69 shaft is 6.5 " long and the 70 up is 7" long. Unless you do some machining to the 7" shaft ,the pinion gear will not engage enough or stay ingaged some . There are diff. pinion shaft nuts ,I have not tried any diff than whats on mine (I bought the bike with it this way ) Mine works just fine , it looks like mine is all OEM except for the shims.
