What is the difference between the SEST software versions 1 and 2?  Is it a model year thing or updated software thing?  Thanks, Calvin.

SEST version 2 ( the 32111-09 part number) has corrected a lot the errors, where the system would simply quit, with a message that said "Nolan has experienced a blah blah blah, quitting now". The new version also has a built in reminder to check for updates periodically, so if the MOCO ever updated their base maps, you would get the latest copy.

Do you have to buy the version that works as the first one should have?

The -09 is necessary for proper functionality. It still isn't perfect, but it's a hellova lot better than the original (32111-08) software. The dongles are updated by the software in use.
