Direction of late style cam thrust spacers

I was wondering if anyone knew if the late style cam thrust washers were different from 1 side to the other ?? They look identical on both sides ( numbered side and not numbered side ) and the service manual states to install the rear spacer with numbers facing towards the inside of engine but I don't see a reference for the front spacer. Is there any difference   TIA Ed M.

Have you removed the one that is inside the engine yet ?
Take a look before you remove it and replace the new one the same way the old one comes out.
I know if it sounds so easy it might be ....

They are flat and not directional.

I had the same happen to me, I took pictures when I was doing my cam change so I just went back and looked how they were from the factory, on mine they were numbers out. I couldn't see where it would matter but I didn't want to change the rotation direction.

Dewey wrote " They are flat and not directional ".  I suspected that, was just looking for an experienced opinion.  I started with all brand new parts when I did the conversion with TW-26N cams in my '03 Ultra and I did place both thrust washers with the numbers facing in while I was assembling it.  I just couldn't for the life of me see what difference it made. Using stock hydraulic/roller chain cam chest parts ( did my own Herko kit ) and TW-26N cams I hear a tremendous reduction in noise coming from the cam chest, in fact now it is dead silent where with the original roller/ball bearing and spring loaded tensioners I could hear a fair amount of noise coming from the cam chest.  As a bonus my oil pressure is higher, I see approximately 25psi at idle and 45+ over 2k rpms hot.  And this is with Shell Rotella 15w-40. With the hydraulic tensioner conversion, SE rocker supports shimmed to .003" end play, SE -.030" Perfect fit 1 piece pushrods my engine is far quieter than it's ever been and finally as I feel as it should be.
