Refreshing the top end on my 86 FLHTC because of oil leaks from the rear base gasket and the bike is burning oil. I have the rocker covers off, using the rear wheel to move the pistons, and have the rear piston at the top, both valves are closed but there is NO play in the rocker arms. Shouldn't there be play?

with hydraulic lifters you won't have any lash w/the valves closed.........Headcase

What size socket is used to remove the head bolts? I've got 4 different sockets that fit, but which one is correct?

Without running out in the garage to check, I wanna say 7/16", 12 point.

gaillarry

Nope, 7/16 is too small.  Its a torx shaped nut.

1/2" 12 point = head bolt removal.
