Taking upgraded parts off a totaled bike...

I got a call from a friend who totaled his bagger recently...It is at his ins. companies storage yard...
He says ...they said he could come down and remove upgraded parts and replace them with stock parts...
We are talking at least $1000 in add ons...I was surprised as they are selling the bike within 30 days...Does this sound kosher...?

My insurance company covers any upgrade up to $8,000 that I have a receipt for and custom paint up to $3000...
