Per my instructions, clean the cylinders in a bucket of soapy water.
I'm worried about flash rust even if I oil the bores. It also states not
to use o-rings on the ring dowel on a 1550, head gasket.???????

                                 Thanks, Jim

Wide,
For a few years (like 10) I was the service manager for a local distributor.
They sent me to factory schools for Polaris snowmobiles.
Hands on training for engine teardowns and chassis.
They instructed us, believe it or not, to put the cylinders in the dishwasher.
Removes all oil and shavings when porting was done.
JUST DON'T LET THEM GO THROUGH THE DRY CYCLE.....or they will get rust.
After they come out, (right away) coat the cylinders with light oil, or they will rust up.
Think about it, the dish washer will do a good job, I've done it, trust me.
Just don't let the woman see you do it.   If they see you, I didn't tell you.

Hot soapy water, hot water rinse and dry with a lightly oiled lint free rag.
It must be true,I read it on the internet.

I've tried just about everything and afterwards whiped it out with WD40 on a clean rag and it comes out dirty. Repeat till the rag comes out clean.

A final wipe down with ATF works good too

RK103

Yep, forgot to mention the ATF for final wipe. It protects agains rust beter than WD.

Herko

Hot water. Dawn liquid. Cylinder Brush in drill. Fwd and reverse.
Coffee filters make for a good lint free wiping cloth with ATF etc.
