I did an 883 to 1200 upgrade on my 87 sporty for my wife. Unfortunately my son and his Friends went into my work space to do some work on his truck. The push rods were laid out as they came out (IE. intake and exhaust separated and put on a cloth marked with sharpie as intake and exhaust). They had to use my work bench and moved my stuff. So I looked in the maintenance manual and it says to identify the push rods look for colored stripes on the rods. The bike is so old that there are no color bands left on the rods to use for identification. How do I identify the rods now? Can I go to the dealer and find out which of the three lengths were used on this bike then measure them? Is the intake or exhaust always longer so i can just measure them and go from there?

Thanks,
Dave

In most cases with the stock pushrods the exhaust will be the longest.

'87 Pushrods ....................  well they could be anything.

You say a 883 to 1200 upgrade, but was it really an 883 to 1100 upgrade ?
What exactly did you do/change.

If fully stock I'd say
Exhaust (Front & Rear) 3 band - Red, 17904-86,  10.435 in
Intake   (Front & Rear) 1 band - Red, 17897-86,  10.405 in.

For reference only Stock EVO Sportster pushrods from '89 on

Exhaust (Front & Rear) 3 Band - Pink, 17904-89,  10.800 in. (27.432 cm)
Intake (Front & Rear) 1 band - Brown, 17897-89, 10.746 in. (27.295 cm)

Just a little note for the record, those -89 pushrods wasn't used until the 5-speed XL's in -91. One of the rare occations H-D's suffix isn't accurate  :teeth:
