Putting together a 49 oil pump. It is very similar to the ones used on the knuckles. There are two studs on the outside of the pump for the block-off plate. However they are too long (about the thickness of one extra plate). There are no holes machined in the in the pump cover. So, do I machine the studs down to the thickness of a single plate or do I need to machine holes in the pump cover.
