883 fuel tank question

2001 883 fuel tank, says "sportster 883".  Is this stamped into metal, or just painted on?  Can it be removed if I do 883 to 1200 conversion?

it's painted or decaled on with clear coat paint over top of it (I think decal).  removing it is much harder than finding a different tank on Ebay.

i agree with WB ,they use powdercoat paint now ,,very hard stuff even sandblasting takes a while

I repainted the wifes 02 883.  It was a decal covered in clearcoat.  Actually removed very easy with a little sanding.  Don't know about 2001??

why not leave it alone? then you have a real "sleeper" at the stop light drags!! also many insurance companies rate cost by cubic inches so why help em out by advertising you got a larger engine!
