magneto question

Ok i can spin the mag off the bike and get a healthy blue spark that arcs real nice put the mag in the bike and hardley anything can the mag be grounding out to the motor? throught the case? :scratch:

Don't forget when installed in the motor the mag only spins at 1/2 crank speed, so to duplicate what you did "by hand" would take quite a kick. Yes, the spark at normal "kick" speed is small, but it should be enough to ignite the mix. Mallory used to sell a extra heavy duty condenser that was mounted to the outside of the mag. This did help by storing more juice for starting, however, they don't sell them any more. You could try an aftermarket capacitor from an electronics store to use in the same way. Or, send the mag to Joe Hunt for refurbishing - it will be as good as new so you can take that out of the equation if its still hard to start.
