FLHS oil pump

Hello all..

New here, I found this site searching for info on my oil pump.  Anyway.... I searched the forums and could not find my answer.

I need to replace a gasket on my FLHS oil pump. If I remember correctly , last time I had it apart,  I damned near had to pull the tranny to get the last bolt out of the oil pump.  Anyone know an easier way

Also, looking at the casting (while one the bike) is there any reason I can not mill a little off the outer tab on the pump cover to give it a little extra clearance should I need to do it again ?

The Evo big twin has the transmission very close to the engine case and yeah, it's not a nice job to do.  The last time I needed to have an oil pump leak looked at, I took it to my local Indy because it's more of a hassle than I wanted to play with.  There just isn't an easy way to do that job.  As far as milling the pump body, I really wouldn't suggest it.
