Some time ago I acquired a nos 77 crank assembly.  I believe 77 was a cross over year for the crank and several other parts that mate with it like pinion and sprocket bearings, oil pump and drive gears and others I'm sure.  What year cases can this 77 crank be used in or up to what year?

Thanks Lew.

Did HD change to a "harmonized" crank on the XL's like on the big twins?  Always wondered the actual changes themselves and reasons.

Great info, thanks.  Just what I was looking for.

Here we go reviving an oldie.   So if this crank assembly was bought years ago from HD is it safe to assume that it's assembled and balanced for the stock 1000cc pistons?  Is there a way of telling from markings or something on the assembly?    If OK as is then I can proceed to check for runout and assemble into cases right?
