I'm by no means an expert, but if my pan was a '55 and I needed that original emblem, I would buy it from a reptable person.  If you have Palmer's book, (page 608) the Ebay emblem looks slightly different.  Look at the section that has the words "Harley-Davidson", Palmer's picture shows it raised up from the "V".  Just my .02
