clutch adjusting

I have a 88 883 been sitting a couple years primary dry so i put new clutch cable the bike still not running in mock up stage so i adjusted clutch and when i put in gear and roll bike it still in gear clutch not working does it have to have fluid in it to work.i turned counter clock until seated then 1/4 back off i need some help

The clutch plates may be stuck together from sitting so long.

Yeah - I've had a couple of bikes do that after long standing. Had to pull the clutch down and split the plates. Not a happy situation with the Moto Guzzi.

thanks thats what thought pulled it apart lubed up and good to go
