I've been thinking of getting an XR1200.  What were the differences between the model years?  I know that 2011 had major suspension upgrades, but how about the other years?  Thanks.

There are two versions, the XR1200 and the XR1200X. The XR1200 came out first in the European market as an 08 model. Difference between 08 and 09 is the sprung loaded footpegs on the 09. I don't believe there are any 08 models released in the USA. For 2010 the XR1200X was introduced, and again I believe we got it in Europe first. The X has a completely blacked out engine, better rear shocks,a better front end, and different front discs. 2010 models had some of the electrics relocated to help prevent corrosion issues, and they have a 176 software level in the ECM, rather than the 171. The "standard" XR1200 has been discontinued , and only the X is now produced.
The standard was available (probably still some unsold ones) in Orange, Black and Pewter Denim (Silver). The X was initially available only in a flat black, but is now also available in white as well.
I've got one, and it is the best handling bike Harley have yet made.
