My 50 FL has a buddy seat on it and I would like to try a solo seat.
Bikes is close to being orginal, so I would like to get the correct seat for it. I am having trouble finding out the style orginal 50 used or close to it. Ebay show some and some say OE but not sure. J&p shows several but again, not sure. I want a leather seat for sure. If anyone has had experince replacing or restoring solo that year , I like to know. Thanks

The best place to find info is Palmer's "HOW TO RESTORE YOUR HARLEY-DAVIDSON".  If you don't have a copy, check out this link http://books.google.com/books?id=nHJsMYEnvZkC&pg=PA450&dq=deluxe+solo+seats  Your posting of the ebay showing the skirted seat with chrome spears is for 1955-1980.

Hope this helps!

At the above website, toggle down to page 588 & 590.  This will show your '50.

If you cannot find the correct seat, but find a picture, you can always have one made.

I had a "correct" buddy seat for my 56 FLH made by Larry Heilman, who does nice work.  You can find him at http://www.saddles.amintech.com/.

heathers-leathers.com is another site that makes nice seats. I've had a couple of friends that have purchased some seats for their Harley's and Indian's and I'm going to have them do a buddy seat for my pan.

Checking my HD parts book (covers '49-'57) the standard saddle (52004-25) and the  Deluxe saddle (52006-47A) are both solo saddles and fit 1925 through 1957. so the solo seat is the same for your 1950.

checking current part numbers 52004-25 is STILL a valid, current part number (list price $209.95). The same goes for 52006-47B (just the B revision). it's current and lists for $199.95

edited to add:

At those LIST prices you could get brand new ones cheaper then those eBay listings from a 20% off discount dealer (Jenni or Chicago or whoever)

Has anyone actually purchased one of HD's The description below makes me wonder what it is. That is for the deluxe 52006-47b. Does the mounting that it comes with bolt directly to our T bars?

Fits '07-later FLSTSB, '06-later FXST, FXSTB, FXCTC and FXSTS models (except FXSTSSE/2/3) and '86-'94 Softail® models. Requires separate purchase of model-specific Mounting Hardware Kit P/N 51902-09 or 52225-89.

good question Jim. I wondered that myself at times but now that I bought an original mid-50's buddy seat I stopped thinking about it. It would make sense that those mounting kits are to adapt the "old" seats to the new frames and that those original part numbers would still be a "perfect" fit on the earlier frames otherwise you'd think there would be a new part number. Sense, of course, is not enough.lol. I'd be curious to know too, if they actually go right on as eventually I want to have a solo too so I can go back and forth between the solo and buddy.

I think you're right but I need one and I'd like someone else to buy one first and tell me. Is that too much to ask?

I just bought an original solo pan base and sent it to worsham castle in north carolina to make the exact seat that was on my 50 FL. If you want an exact rebuild of an original it is not what you get from the dealer. look up worsham castle and give michael a call he is a wealth of info for old seats and saddlebags

Good idea Jim and certainly not too much to ask.

Send me a check for $200 and I'll buy one and let you know how it fits.

Thanks guys for some good info. I have palmers guide but was alittle confused on the difference between solo or deluxe solo. I really like the sites that make you a seat but where can you get a seat pan from. I have seen them on Ebay but thought there might be a place for new ones.
