Is it possible to install a 1974 engine (right side shift) into a 1977 XLCH frame?  How difficult to retrofit?  Thanks

The frame won't have the ferrule to hold the rear brake pivot shaft.
The 1977 has a completely different engine and there could be big time fitment problems.
There also may (probably will) be more problems.
I would find a proper frame for that motor.

The frames are differant, but the engine cases are the same (1959-1966)-(1967-1978) and the rear engine mount was from 1959-1966 and 1967-1978. so i think it'll fit.

The engine cases are NOT the same.
The 1977 and up cases were redesigneded for left hand shifter and right hand brake.
A 1977 frame won't have the ferrule for the rear brake crossover shaft like a 1976 and earlier frame has.
1977 cases have a completely different oil pump set up, and the bottom of the case is shaped a lot differently because of the new style oil pump.
