Stereo buffs

Bought a (Pioneer) stereo system about 12-14 years ago.  Have found the grille frame laying on the floor a couple times.  Thought the grand kids were messing with the grills but they claim they weren't.  Suspect the grommets that hold the grills on have worn some even though I'd never taken them off before.  Can I just wrap the stud that goes into the grommet with electrical tape to keep the grills on?  Is there a better way>

If you have the right size, might use a piece of heat shrink tubing over them.
