clutch Ball and ramp retaining ring position?

So i did not notice the position of the retaining ring on the trans end cover its a pro one cover the slot for the lower ramp faces out towards cable , so should i just put the ring opening back towards the rear so the ring will cover the open spot or is there a certain way.

Put the ring so that it grabs/comes into contact with the most metal. Something else I'm anal about, almost all retaining rings are stamped from a sheet, meaning if you look at both sides of the ring, you will notice one side is 'rounded', the other side has a sharp edge. I always install the sharp edge so that it would grab or dig into the surrounding material when force is put on it.
