primary chain adjust, Hot or Cold?

You can adjust either way. Adjustment measurements are different for each, or at least they used to be.

Manual for an 05 FLHTI says "cold" 5/8" to 7/8" "Hot 3/8" to 5/8"
I have usually adjusted during primary fluid changes, so the temp has dropped to somewhere in the middle. I will shoot for somewhere between 5/8" to 3/4".

All I can add is cold is more repeatable. Hot can have too many different temps as a base line.
